Originally from Valley Stream, Long Island, Barton attended Nassau Commmunity College, studying chiropractic medicine, then pharmacology. He was accepted into St. John's University Medical School, but just before signing up for classes,he got cold feet and instead decided to pursue a career in modeling and acting.  After some initial modeling assignments, Barton moved to Hollywood to make his mark on the entertainment industry.  At the age of 22, he was cast opposite Shirley Jones in the NBC series "Shirley", even though he had no formal trianing.  The studio connected him with prominent acting coach Vincent Chase, and when the series ended, he was cast as the lead in another NBC series, "The Powers of Matthew Star".  Barton is perhaps best known as Dr. Scott Grainger on the datime drama "The Young and the Restless."  He also starred in "University Hospital," a Spelling program which aired on the United Paramount Network.  For a second time, Peter played a Bevery Hills detective on another Spelling production, "Burke's Law."  A third stint with yet another Spelling production, he was cast as Eddie Connors, "A Good Cop Gone Bad" on "Sunset Beach".  This character showed the world his talent.  Being known as a "Prince Among Men", this personality was a leap out of his "True Self" and caused him to delve into areas where he had never gone before.

Peter said when asked about his working with Spelling on the show: "Every show Aaron Spelling does is like his first.  He puts his heart and soul into it and treats everyone like family."

With the part of Eddie Connors, he developed a simple research plan:  "I went out and got some good, gritty cop movies."

Additional television credits include "Pacific Blue", "The Fall Guy", The Facts of Life", and the Spelling classic, "The Love Boat."  He also starred in the feature films "Friday the 13th:  The Final Chapter and "Hell Night".  His theater credits include a starring role in "Death of the Salesman" in Los Angeles.  Aside from acting, Barton is a fitness enthusiast and loves all sports.  He currently resides in Los Angeles, and his birthday is July 19th, 1956. 

FACTS: 

Peter was burned in a freak accident on the set of "The Powers of Matthew Star", and was unable to work for three months.

Peter beat out none other than Tom Cruise for the lead in "The Powers of Matthew Star".

As a youngster, he was terrified of Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmations.

Peter Barton's father owned a concrete business for 35 years.

Asked about his favorite moment acting on "Sunset Beach", Peter Barton said, "I think my favorite moments are anything with Sarah Buxton (Annie).  Early on in the Jacuzzi scenes, her pulling a gun on me, seducing me in the jail cell.  Those are great moments."
