A MAN CALLED PETER (Interview below underneath pictures)
SHIRLEY (1979) I was working with Peter Haskell, we were on horseback, and it was a very emotional scence. I was rebelling and being a real snot-nosed kid. Eventually, he hauls off and smacks me, but they kept on doing it like an acting slap - like he wasn't really slapping me. Unbeknownst to me, the director had told him, "Hit him. Hit him this time". Needless to say, Peter hit me with a nice good shot in the face and my eyes welled up, but after that, everything was perfect. The last day of shooting on "Shirely" a young lady that I had a friendship with on the show for awhile suprised me. I was a young, naive kid - this was almost 20 years ago. Well I know she has a crush on me, but after the last scene had finished and the show was wrapped, I walked into my dressing room, and there she was waiting for me. Naked. And that's Hollywood!
HELL NIGHT (1980) "Hell Night" was the only time in my career where I was drinking. I'd told my agent I didn't want to act anymore. I wanted to get out of the business. My agent told me to go to lunch with the producers and Linda Blair and tell them I didn't want to do the movie. So I did lunch. The next thing I know, I'm having a glass of wine with Linda Blair and then I'm in the office reading for this stupid movie again - and getting the part! I was in such a bad state mentally that I went out and bought myself a bottle of cognac. Before going to work, I'd swig that cognac and get as drunk as I could. You really didn't notice. There was a scence where we are at the front gate of the place - the scariest part of the whole movie. We have discovered that people are being killed and we can't get out becuase the fence has these points on it. And I'm totally drunk and saying lines like, "We have to go back inside and find Susie!" I was wasted.
THE POWERS OF MATTHEW STAR (1983) At this point in my career, I'd fallen in love with all my leading ladies. I saw Amy Steel, who was cast as my girlfriend on the show, walk out of the room right before I was going to audition in New York. We didn't even say hi, we just looked at each other and I instantly fell in love with her. We ended up doing a series together. But she had a boyfriend whom she's married to now. It was puppy love - nothing major ever happened. I was just in love with her and she knew it. The major thing on "Matthew Star" was that I got burned. Literally. I fell on a flare and I was on fire and they cut my shirt and pants off so I had nothing on. It was kinda serious but I was calm. I guess I was in shock. I was really blown away by the fact that this happened to me. I'd never even broken a bone or was hurt before. That realization - I was amazed that I could get hurt. I think I still had that grandiose kid's view of life where nothing bad can happen to yo7u. In the series, I was so fortunate to work with Lou Gossett, Jr. He brought my acting up five notches.
THE FIRST TIME (1982) This was a TV movie with Jennifer Jason Leigh. I played her boyfriend. She was so free as an actress and so creative - and I was still such a Long Island boy that her creativity scared me. Now I realize what a gift she had and wish I'd been able to see and have been a part of that talent when I was younger. I was still so afraid and holding onto my boundaries so strongly. The movie was like "Splendor in the Grass". I was wanting her to be with me and she wasn't able to be with me, so I left town and she follows me. I was more of a cog in the story.
FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984) The first day of work was on Holloween. I'd seen Kimberly Beck, the star of the movie when I was on "Shirley" and she was on "Buck Rogers" and it was instant infatutation. I was instantly in love, but she was married at the time to a Hilton, of Hilton hotels. They said, "Forget it, she's married". I ended up living with her in 1987. It's weird. Needless to say, I have patience. That's my strongest point. I can wait forever.

BURKES LAW (1994-95) Gene Berry used to always love to read cue cards and I'd fight with him all the time. We would be on camera doing our close-ups at the same time. There'd be one camera on Gene. Gene would insist that the guest star, who was standing behind the camera, hold the cue cards up to their faces, while I wanted to see the actorss faces so I could react off of what they were doing. Gene thought I was plotting to make him look bad. We'd have these little fights about the cue cards. One of the greatest joys I had in acting was working with Dom Deluise. I've never laughed that much before - although now I'm starting to laugh like that with Sam Behrens. We have the same sick, dark sense of humor. Anytime Dom worked, the days just flew by. Every mistake he made, he'd turn into another hilarious event. He's the greatest joy.

UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL (1995) I'd just gotten finished with "Burkes Law" and had worked with 150 major, major stars doing the show. Yet, when I worked with Hudson Leick, she intimidated me. She's one of those actresses who are so sure of themselves that she made me feel totally insecure. It took me a whole week, but finally, on the last day of shooting, we warmed up to each other. I hadn't felt like that in a long time. I felt like I was doing my first TV episodes again. (No Picture Available)
